Over 250 people played supporting roles in Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center’s recent Broadway-themed Starlight Benefit fundraiser and social event at the Water’s Edge Resort and Spa.
Held on Saturday, April 25, this year’s Starlight Benefit “On Broadway” stands to net $90,000, making it one of the most successful events in recent years. Funds raised at the Starlight Benefit help to underwrite Vista’s many programs and services. A portion of the proceeds, raised during a special live auction, will benefit Vista’s Enrichment Fund, which helps underwrite special projects and initiatives that directly benefit students and members in Vista’s programs.
Award-winning director Pat Souney, a staple within the shoreline theatre and Vista performing arts communities, was the honoree of this year’s event. Among her many credits, Souney helped create the theatre arts program at Guilford High School. She has also been involved with Vista’s performing arts programs for many years, most recently having directed Vista Arts Center’s productions of The Wizard of Oz and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The show-stopping production included silent and live auctions, a cocktail function and dinner. The evening’s main attraction was the “Vista Success Awards,” an awards show-styled presentation featuring live performances by some of Souney’s former students, including Vista members Brian Ruddy and John Tillinghast, as well as Kate Jennings Grant, Julie Fitzpatrick and Michelle Johnston.
In keeping with the Broadway theme, many attendees came dressed as characters from or fitting the theme/time period of their favorite show. Visit Vista on Facebook to see photos from the event.
Vista would like to thank the many generous sponsors who supported this year’s Starlight Benefit, including Andi Barouh; the Matthew Seaman Family; Andy Baxter; Margie and Kevin Butler; Berkowitz, Trager & Trager LLC; Essex Printing; Shore Publishing; Shoreline Framing; Wells Fargo; Citizens Bank; Yale New Haven Health System; and Tower Laboratories Ltd.
