Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center went “Back to the Future” Sunday at the 2nd Annual Madison Bed Race, where its DeLorean-inspired racer won Most Creative Bed.
Hosted by the Madison Chamber of Commerce, this year’s event featured 12 teams. Each bed was thoroughly inspected by a team of judges before the race. Once all the beds were deemed to be in compliance, the individual time trials started down Meetinghouse Lane, behind the Town Green.
Channeling Marty McFly, Vista’s Chief Executive Officer Helen Bosch sat at the helm of the DeLorean. Vista employees Tod Van Kirk, Amanda Roberts, Michael Monroe and Caroline Braaksma—who were each dressed like Doc Brown—powered the DeLorean. Finishing the race in 18.18 seconds, Vista placed in the top 10.
The award for Most Creative Bed was determined by the public. Prior to the race, attendees were able to view the beds and vote for their favorite.
William Raveis Real Estate was crowned this year’s Grand Champion, completing the race in 12.10 seconds. Not far behind in second place was Madison Hose, finishing in 12.45 seconds. Clocking in at third place with a time of 14.60 seconds was Madison Rotary Club. Not wanting to wake their sleeping driver, Tidewater Inn walked to the finish line, earning the Better Luck Next Year award.  To see full race results, visit the Madison Chamber of Commerce website.
