Workplace Literacy: A New Mission
Posted on June 19th, 2015

Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore (LVVS) announces Workplace Literacy, a grant-funded initiative being readied for a July rollout in Guilford. Thanks to funding received from The Guilford Foundation and the generous support of the Guilford Community Fund, LVVS is offering this free program to Guilford businesses that want to help employees to be more productive and to help them grow personally.
The program will match volunteer tutors with employees and work together with employers to customize a program that combines the demands of the workplace with student needs. Instruction will be delivered in the workplace at a time convenient for both the employer and student, at no cost.
Employers benefit by providing employees with specific workplace-related training and skills, resulting in enhanced productivity and better communication with supervisors, clients and co-workers. The initiative also is a powerful recruitment and retention tool for employers, as they strive to maximize each hire and remain competitive in today’s challenging economy.
Employees and students receive training that builds skills without the worry of arranging transportation or scheduling issues to attend lessons.
Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore’s program has improved English speaking, reading, and writing for thousands over thirty-five years. The affiliate is reaching out to area businesses with an offer to partner with the community to build a better Guilford. Any business interested in participating in the program should contact John Ferrara, Executive Director, at (860) 399-0280, or via email: jferrara@vsliteracy.org
