Connex CU Donates $800 to FISH of Greater New Haven
Posted on November 24th, 2015

Nelson North, assistant branch manager, Connex Credit Union’s Hamden Branch (left), presents liaison for FISH of Greater New Haven, Inc., Wanda Harris (middle) and Joy Johannes, executive director, FISH of Greater New Haven, Inc., with a check for $809.39. The funds were raised through Connex’s Coins-for-Change program.

Money will be used to provide more than 800 bags of groceries to those in need

With its Coins-for-Change program Connex Credit Union has developed a way to utilize our often neglected pocket change to make a difference in the fight against hunger. As a part of its community-giving program ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated more than $800, from the fees collected by Connex’s coin-cashing machine at their Hamden branch, to FISH of Greater New Haven, Inc. Coins-for-Change charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates the fees collected to charitable organizations in the local community.

“FISH is incredibly honored to be the recipient of these funds,” said Joy Johannes, executive director, FISH of Greater New Haven, Inc. “Our program is extremely cost effective and we will be able to provide over 800 bags of groceries to individuals and families who are not able to make it to the grocery store! Thank you to Connex and its members!”

FISH of Greater New Haven, Inc. is a social service organization that is non-profit and non-denominational providing grocery assistance to home-bound residents in the New Haven area. These households, which include families with children, elderly, sick, disabled, veterans, unemployed and underemployed individuals, receive free bags of nutritionally-sound groceries. FISH is the only agency in the area to deliver free food to its clients who are unable to travel and cannot afford an adequate supply of food. For more information, or to donate, please visit their website www.fishofgreaternewhaven.org.
