NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 30, 2015) – Spare change can add up and help change lives. Connex Credit Union has developed a way to utilize our often neglected pocket change to make a difference for local charitable organizations. As a part of its community-giving program ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated more than $1,000, from the fees collected by Connex’s coin-cashing machine at their North Haven branch, to the Believe in Me Empowerment Corporation (BIMEC). Connex’s “Coins-for-Change” program charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates the fees collected to charitable organizations in the local community.
“Believe In Me would like to extend our gratitude to Connex Credit Union and its patrons for their generosity,” said Ebony Walker, director of programming, Believe in Me Empowerment Corporation. “The donations and support we received will help us to continue our mission of helping youth, young adults and their families to believe, achieve and succeed!”
Believe in Me Empowerment Corporation is a social service agency dedicated to improving the lives of youth, young adults and their families by providing housing, life skills and counseling services. The mission of the agency is to provide hope and opportunities that allow their participants to reach their full potential and become productive citizens. The money Connex has donated will be put towards a restoration project, as their site was recently destroyed during a fire. For more information, or to donate, please visit their website
If you are a local non-profit or charitable organization interested in participating in the “Coins-for-Change” program, please contact Roquita Johnson at Connex Credit Union, at 203-603-5787 or
