How the Internet Works
Posted on February 18th, 2016

Guilford, CT — If you’ve ever wondered how, exactly, the Internet works, find the answer at Guilford Art Center in the all-ages workshop How The Internet Works, Sunday March 6, 1:30pm-3:30pm.

The Internet is essential to the vitality of modern society, but often only understood on an abstract level. This workshop, led by Guilford High School Seniors Sean Hackett, Cory Lynch and Sam Zimmerman, will examine and demystify the physical network of computers that connect humans throughout the world. Students will learn about Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, Domain Name Service (DNS), routers, servers, virtual private networks (VPNs), peer to peer file sharing, and cyber security.

This course is open to students of all ages—youth to adult. No prior knowledge is required.

Instructors Hackett, Lynch, and Zimmerman are all programmers for the Apple Pi Robotics team and members of the GHS Physics Team. Cory and Sam work as software engineers at Occams Resources and Core Informatics, respectively. Sean conducted research in the Yale Department of Physics during summer 2015.
