NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 23, 2016) – The local theater community can continue to thrive thanks to Connex Credit Union’s ability to develop a beneficial use for spare change.  As a part of its philanthropic program ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated more than $600, from the fees collected by Connex’s coin-cashing machine at its Guilford branch, to Shubert Theatre. The Coins-for-Change program charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates the fees collected to charitable organizations in the local community.

“Shubert Theatre is grateful to Connex for including us in the Coins-for-Change program,” said John F. Fisher, executive director, Shubert Theatre. “As a not-for-profit organization, Shubert Theatre relies on every penny to help us accomplish our mission of bringing entertainment and educational opportunities to all members of our community.”

The Shubert Theatre is a vital asset in the theater community and has been an essential part of downtown New Haven for more than a century. Shubert offers a variety of Broadway shows, music and dance performances, as well as an assortment of community programming. The funds collected will be used to support its educational and outreach programs, and will assist with the maintenance of this iconic theater.
