Introductory lessons are open to members and non-members of the credit union

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (Aug. 22, 2016) – Each month, Connex Credit Union features highly informative workshops designed to help you take control of your fiscal situation and progress towards financial independence. Connex Credit Union, one of Connecticut’s largest credit unions, hosts a series of free financial education workshops throughout the year as part of its ConnexCares initiative. The workshops are taught by industry professionals and are filled with information designed to help educate consumers on financial topics and how to set and achieve financial goals. In September, the credit union will be hosting multiple seminars for both members and non-members.
All workshops take place at Connex Credit Union’s North Haven Branch located at 412 Washington Avenue and can either be attended in person or online via WebEx.
The first workshop is entitled “Buying Your First Home” and will cover the basics of home buying from start to finish and will be taught by Connex Mortgage Loan Consultant Mark Frank. This seminar will help prepare you for what to expect when buying your first home. This workshop will take place Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Special guest, Dan Rocco of CPM Insurance, will present “Homeowners Insurance 101.” This session will feature an overview of homeowners insurance, discuss potential coverage gaps and highlight the importance of an annual review of your coverage. This seminar will be offered Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“Credit Score 101” will be presented by Kerry Perrotta, branch manager of Connex’s Guilford branch. This workshop will serve as the ultimate “How-To Guide” for understanding your credit score. You will learn what a credit score is, why it matters, how to establish credit and what hurts your credit score. This workshop will take place Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Additionally, Connex will also present “Car Buying Tips,” an educational seminar hosted by Connex Credit Union’s Assistant Vice President of Indirect Lending Mike Taylor. This informative workshop will ensure you are prepared to tackle the often daunting task of purchasing a car. It will cover topics such as choosing the right vehicle, leasing versus purchasing, evaluating payment options and how Connex Credit Union’s loan department can assist you. This free no-obligation workshop will occur Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in attending a workshop must call 1-800-CR-UNION (1-800-278-6466) or visit connexcu.org to register. During registration you will choose if you are attending in person or online.
