Center for Orthopaedics Doctors Help High School Athletes Avoid Injuries and Concussions

HAMDEN, CT - Doctors Stephanie Arlis-Mayor and Rowland Mayor, of the Center for Orthopaedics – a division of Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists, addressed more than 200 fall sports athletes and coaches from New Haven high schools. DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson also supported the event which focused on understanding injury and concussion prevention and provided the opportunity to practice different drills and techniques to stay safe while practicing and strength training.

Dr. Rowland Mayor’s presentation focused on ways to prevent ACL injuries while practicing as well as workouts to reduce chances of injury.  Dr. Stephanie Arlis-Mayor discussed the prevention and diagnosis of concussions. She left the athletes with a better understanding of the five signs of a concussion as well as ways to prevent them. They were joined by Carl Banks a former New York Giants player and two-time Super Bowl winner who talked about the needs of good conditioning, the right equipment, and proper technique/coaching.

Members of the physical therapy team at STAR PT and the Center for Orthopaedics spent time with the participants running drills and practicing new conditioning techniques aimed at helping prevent injuries.
