GUILFORD, Conn. (Nov. 22, 2016) – Contributions from visitors at Connex Credit Union’s Guilford Branch during the third quarter of 2016 have helped support the restoration of a local landmark.  As a part of its philanthropic program ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union recently donated more than $900 from the fees collected by Connex’s coin-cashing machine at their Guilford Branch to the Save the Shack initiative.

The Coins-for-Change program charges a five percent fee to members, a seven percent fee to non-members and donates this money to charitable organizations in the local community, contributing more than $10,000 annually.

“I would like to sincerely thank Connex Credit Union for its generous donation to Save the Shack,” said John Markowski, coordinator, Save the Shack initiative. “These funds will support the restoration of Guilford’s most iconic landmark, the Grass Island Shack, which is renowned for being the second most painted and photographed building on the East Coast.”
Guilford Boy Scout John Markowski created Save the Shack in September 2015 as an Eagle Scout Project to support necessary repairs for the town’s iconic Grass Island Shack.  This initiative was developed to restore, preserve and beautify the landmark. Once the project is complete, Markowski will use any additional dollars to create a fund at the Guilford Foundation for future maintenance.
