Connex Credit Union was recently honored for its commitment to customer advocacy by Credit Union League of Connecticut (CULCT) at their annual holiday meeting which hosts credit unions from across the state. Connex won first place for its asset size in all available categories, and is now entered into a national contest sponsored by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).

“Our commitment to improving the lives of our members is evident in every aspect of our daily operation and is one of the core values Connex is built upon,” said Frank Mancini, president and chief executive officer, Connex Credit Union. “Garnering statewide acknowledgement for our programs is truly a testament to the dedication of every Connex employee and we are thrilled to now have the opportunity to showcase our programs on a national scale.”

Connex received the following first place awards (greater than $250 million asset category):

Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award
– This award is distributed in honor of social responsibility projects within the community.During the 2015 holiday season, Connex established the “Home for the Holidays” project and collected items to build welcome kits for members of Columbus House, an emergency shelter designed to help the homeless progress toward independence. These kits offered basic necessities to ease the burden of moving from a shelter into a new home. Without these care packages, many of the residents would have struggled to purchase these essentials with their limited incomes. In addition to collecting more than 200 items, the credit union made a $1,000 donation to Columbus House.

Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award – This award recognizes practical applications of credit union philosophy, and the internal programs and services that benefit membership. For several years, Connex has encouraged financial literacy by sponsoring a variety of highly-regarded workshops. Attendees are provided with the knowledge necessary to take control of their fiscal situation and advance on their path to financial independence. In 2016, the credit union expanded their reach by offering webinar versions of these seminars for the first time. Covering topics such as Car Buying Tips, Credit Scores and Online Security, this vital information was now available without having to leave the comfort of your home.

Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award – This award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy for all ages.Connex identified that some schools are challenged to teach fundamental financial concepts such as the basics of budgeting, saving and planning for the future. Additionally, the credit union realized that traditional methods of learning were not as affective among modern youths and youth adults. This epiphany brought about the creation of ConnexNation, a digital newsletter that targets young adults and promotes financial literacy through pop culture videos, helpful blog articles, fun trivia and prize-winning quizzes. ConnexNation was developed in October 2015 and has covered topics such as textbook savings, tips for moving and student loan myths.
