Guilford, CT — New creations by adult students at Guilford Art Center will be featured in the Student Exhibition in the Center’s gallery, February 2-18, 2018. The show will highlight recent work in all media by adult students who have taken classes or workshops at GAC in the past two years.
 
“This show is a great opportunity for The Center to showcase to the public the wonderful works our students have created in our classes,” says Executive Director Maureen Belden. “There should be paintings and drawings, pottery, weaving, blacksmithing, jewelry, glass and more—works that can be inspiring to other community members.”
 
The Student Exhibition opens on Friday, February 2, with a reception from 5-7. Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm. The exhibition and the opening reception are free and open to the public.

​A Shared Stage Productions, a program of Vista Life Innovations, invites versatile performers ages 15 and older to audition for its upcoming spring musical production of "The Addams Family."
 
Auditions will be held Sunday, Jan. 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 29 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Vista’s Madison Campus, 107 Bradley Road. Performers should come prepared to sing 16 measures of sheet music and be dressed to move. An accompanist will be provided.
   
A new musical comedy, “The Addams Family” brings to life the wonderfully kooky and macabre world of Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley and the entire Addams clan. But the family is faced with a peculiar challenge: 18-year-old Wednesday has fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family, whom she’s invited over for dinner. Everything will change for the Addams’ on that hilariously fateful night as they welcome Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents into their home.
 
The production will run May 18, 19 and 20 at The Kate in Old Saybrook under the direction of Martin Marchitto.

​Alissa Montz, owner of Salon Lis-A-Lis,  presents a check to the firefighters as Dr. and Mrs. Schmidt look on.
 
Salon Lis-A-lis  worked with the Guilford Fire Department as well as Dr. Schmidt to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Salon Lis-A-Lis teamed up with Dr. Schmidt, who does botox and injectables at the Salon, to hold a fire and ice event December 7th. The event raised $1,120.00.

Shoreline Chamber of Commerce Announces New President

Branford, CT January 2, 2018 - The Shoreline Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has named Sheri Cote as its new President. Ms. Cote replaces Edward Lazarus, who retired from the Shoreline Chamber after leading the organization for 10 years.
 
As President, Cote will oversee the Chamber’s staff, budget and operations and serve as Chamber liaison to Chamber members, board of directors and the community.
 
"Sheri stood out among the many candidates that applied for the position from throughout southern New England", said Jim Rochford, Chairman of the Board’s Search Committee, “Sheri's extensive Chamber of Commerce experience and leadership skills will hold the Shoreline Chamber in good stead for the future". 
 
Ms. Cote has 13 years of Chamber experience, most recently as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut. Sheri helped guide the Eastern Chamber to steady growth to 1600 members, managed the organization’s $1.2 million budget and oversaw 11 staff to produce more than 150 programs and events annually. During her tenure, Cote also chaired the Thames River Innovation Place, launched the Regional Core Calendar, and started the Eastern CT Premier Home Show and the Total Life Expo.
 
“The Board and I are delighted that Sheri will lead the Shoreline Chamber into its next stage of growth,” said Camille Murphy, Chamber Board Chair-Elect. “We are thrilled to find someone with a solid Chamber background and who understands the unique needs of a membership-driven organization. We are quite confident that she will grow the Chamber’s membership and increase awareness of the Chamber’s mission and what we have to offer the business community.”
