NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 15, 2017) – Connex Credit Union is now accepting applications for its award-winning Vice President (VP) of Unbanking paid internship program. This unique marketing opportunity offers relevant, professional experience as an ambassador for one of Connecticut’s largest credit unions. Any enthusiastic sophomore, junior or senior studying communications, marketing, public relations, or another relevant major, is eligible to apply.
The primary function of the VP of Unbanking is to assist Connex in completing its mission statement, “Improving the lives of our members, one member at a time.” The program runs from Jan. 2018 through Apr. 2018 and requires a minimum of 15 hours of availability each week. Potential for a December 2017 start date is available for those interested.

Key responsibilities of the VP of Unbanking include:

Developing social media programs and content for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and blogging (video editing skills are a plus). Participating in every aspect of a working marketing department including mailings, data entry and other duties as assigned. Willingness to think outside the box and develop the position into your own by generating creative ideas and thinking strategically. Tracking and analyzing results on all internship driven projects. Having schedule flexibility. Hours will be primarily during the normal business hours; however, candidate should be available for occasional evening and weekend events. All applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office, as well as a variety of social media platforms. Further discussion of compensation and hours will occur during interviews.

Holiday Gifts Sparkle at Jewelry & Champagne Event at The Shop at Guilford Art Center
 
Guilford, CT – The public is invited to a free and festive “Jewelry & Champagne” reception at The Shop at Guilford Art Center on Thursday, November 30 from 5-8 pm. Guests are invited to enjoy champagne and chocolates while viewing the eclectic mix of fine handmade jewelry for sale. There will be door prizes and give-aways offered throughout the evening.
 
The Artistry holiday shop carries a wide array of jewelry, featuring a range of styles, materials and price points. Find truly unique pieces created by American artisans in a range of materials including metal, stone, leather, brass, sterling, beads, resin and a new line of 14-karat gold jewelry.

Protecting Plum Island - Sunday, November 19th at 2:00 pm

Take a virtual tour of Plum Island and hear the latest efforts to protect it. Plum Island is home to the nation’s foreign animal disease center, as well as several endangered species and unique habitats. Currently, the island is to be sold by the federal government to the highest bidder. Many organizations would rather see the amazing island conserved and are fighting to save it.

Presented by Chris Cryder, Special Projects Coordinator for Save the Sound and outreach coordinator for the Preserve Plum Island Coalition.

​Guilford Art Center Announces Registration for Winter 2018
Semester Classes & Workshops


Guilford, CT  - Registration is now open for Winter 2018 classes and workshops at Guilford Art Center.  Classes are offered for youth (ages 2 ½ and older) and adults.  The winter semester runs from January 15 – March 9.
 
In addition to all of the standard classes across mediums, there are a wide range of new adult classes offered, including “Fused Glass Jewelry”, “Hanging Ornamental Assemblage”, “Cutting Pictures in Paper” and a photo workshop called “Shooting from the Heart”.   
 
New children’s classes include “Sew a Teddy Bear”, “3 Doodler Workshop” and “Creating 3D Sea Creatures”.
 
GAC welcomes three new instructors to its faculty roster:

Rob Goldman is a photographer, community-engaged artist, educator, author and speaker. He holds a BS in Photography from Rochester Institute of Photography and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College. His work has been celebrated in gallery exhibitions and national magazines. He’s also the founder and director of the Center for Creative Development, a nonprofit organization that is home to several youth empowerment programs. (GAC class: “Shooting from the Heart”)
 
Sine Hjort grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark and discovered a love of printmaking and etching while attending the Copenhagen Art School and the Royal Danish Academy of Art. Working in her printmaking studio in Croton-on-Hudson, Sine creates large linoleum cuts and etchings that have been featured in galleries and exhibitions throughout New York. Sue Mullaney holds a BS from the University of Connecticut in Clothing, Textiles and Design, and an MS from Southern Connecticut State University in Art Education. She’s spent 21 years teaching visual arts in the public schools, learning programs and adult education programs.  (GAC Class: “Creating 3D Sea Creatures”)
