​Join us April 22nd for the Earth Fest 10am- 2pm @ Guilford Fairgrounds and Cleaning up the Town of Guilford.
 
On behalf of the Guilford Parks and Recreation Department and Guilford Agricultural Society, we thank you for participating in the Guilford Earthfest event on Saturday, April 22nd at 10:00a.m.  We are excited to educate the public on the subject of sustainable practices and introduce to various farmers market vendors.  If you know of anyone that may be interested in educating or vending, please have them contact the Department at 203-453-8068 or mooreb@ci.guilford.ct.us.
 
We are looking for anyone willing to help come and clean up the town. Sport teams, organizations, Boys & Girls Scouts or other affiliations and good citizens to show pride in our community and get rid of the Trash. We will have dump trucks at the Guilford Fairgrounds to help trek out all the gunk. Hope to see you there! The Guilford Parks and Recreation Department along with the Guilford Agricultural Society are pleased to announce the second annual Earth Day program “Earthfest” on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Guilford Fairgrounds from 10:00a.m.-2:00p.m.  We are excited to educate the Guilford public on the subject of sustainable practices. The Department will have information stations for recycling, planting, repurposing, and keeping waterways clean. The program features games, door prizes, live entertainment, and more.

 There will also be a challenge for all to help Clean Up Guilford and fill dump trucks (provided by the Public Works Department)! We encourage individuals, neighborhoods and organizations to get together and clean up a street or park. A Guilford map will be displayed indicating areas that have been cleaned.  Please share on the Town of Guilford Facebook events page for Earthfest, where your group plans to clean up.

Returning to Earthfest are some of last year’s favorites. Curious Creatures with exotic animals to learn about and even hold! The Agricultural Experiment Station will have specimens to look at under microscopes, plants and insects to examine, and a button making press.

New to the event this year is a Farmer’s Market, featuring some of Guilford’s Dudley Farm Marketers. Vendors from around Connecticut will be selling their sustainable wares, including repurposed goods from Two Sassy Stitchers, all natural skin care from Balmz Away!, wood sculptures from Lee Burkhardt, and felted toys and soaps, along with plants from Martha’s Favorites. Buster Scranton will be answering questions about maple sugaring and will have his syrup and popcorn on the cob for sale. Tripledale Farms will be on site with a free petting zoo and donkey rides available for purchase. Half Mile Acres will be selling their humane raised, grass fed beef and eggs.

Children will have a chance to play games, make a Lorax flower pot, climb a rock wall, plant seeds, bounce on inflatables, and more, while learning ways to take care of the environment. The 4H Club will be sharing their expertise with activities for the kids to do.

Cheryl Kling, author of “Nature’s Royal Tea Party” will be selling her book and doing readings throughout the event. Sea of No Plastic will be showcasing the Rakefish Project. The Connecticut Foodbank will be showing you how you can become involved in Planting a Row for the foodbank. Guilford Land Trust and Conservation Committees and the Westwood Trails Committee will be on hand to talk to you about our open spaces, trails and trail etiquette. Eversource Energy Resource group will be giving tips on how to save energy in your home.
Beto, of Taqueria Cinco, will be cooking up his burritos and more for purchase at his food truck, and Al Kostuk will be popping up his kettle corn to sell.
“T-Bone” will entertain us, starting at 11:00.

​ESSEX PRINTING WINNER IN NEW ENGLAND REGIONAL PRINTING AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE COMPETITION
 
The Print Industries of New England (PINE) has announced that Essex Printing is an Awards of Excellence winner in the association’s annual Awards of Excellence competition.  The announcement was made on April 5, 2017 during PINE’s Industry Awards Gala, held at the Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA, with hundreds of industry professionals in attendance.  The Awards of Excellence Competition attracted over 320 entries from 41 printing and imaging companies across New England competing in a variety of printing and graphic communications categories such as best annual report, direct mail campaign, labels & packaging, and more.

​Connex Offers Unique Real-World Experience With
“Vice President of Unbanking” Paid Marketing Internship
Program provides relevant business opportunities in a dynamic marketing environment


NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (Apr. 6, 2017) – Connex Credit Union is accepting applications from ambitious communications, marketing or public relations students for the eighth year of its highly-regarded Vice President (VP) of Unbanking paid internship program. This unique marketing opportunity offers relevant, professional business experience as an ambassador for the dynamic marketing department of one of Connecticut’s largest credit unions. Any enthusiastic sophomore, junior or senior seeking a real-world internship unlike any other is eligible to apply.

The primary function of this position is to assist Connex in adhering to its mission statement, “Improving the lives of our members, one member at a time.” The VP of Unbanking Program runs from Sept. 2017 through Apr. 2018 and requires a minimum of 15 hours of availability each week. Potential for a summer 2017 start date is available for those interested.
Key responsibilities of the VP of Unbanking include:

Developing social media programs and content for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and blogging (video editing skills are a plus)Participating in every aspect of a working marketing department including mailings, data entry and other duties as assignedWillingness to think outside the box and develop the position into your own by generating creative ideas and thinking strategicallyTracking and analyzing results on all internship driven projectsHaving schedule flexibility. Hours will be primarily during the normal business hours; however, candidate should be available for occasional evening and weekend events.All applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office, as well as a variety of social media platforms. Connex Credit Union recently received three awards, including a “Best in Class” recognition, at the 2017 New England Financial Marketing Association (NEFMA) Conference and Awards Show. NEFMA is one of America’s most respected trade associations and hosts this annual ceremony to honor its diverse group of members which includes more than 300 marketing executives from banks, credit unions and financial service companies.

The “Best in Class” distinction is NEFMA’s highest honor and hundreds of financial institutions and advertising agencies from across New England vied for the recognition. After analyzing the overarching effectiveness of all submissions from each institution, Connex was selected as the organization that best displays innovation and excellence in marketing.

Connex also received first place in the “Creative Assets – TV Category” for its commercials that aired throughout the region last summer, including during Olympic coverage. ​Pearce Commercial and Residential Pros Are Listing and Selling Agents in North Haven “Open Space” Transaction 
Future Use of 30 Acre Parcel at Kings Highway May be For Passive Recreation Purposes With No Development 

North Haven, CT.(April 3, 2017) - Barbara L. Pearce, CEO and President of Pearce Real Estate, announced that Christopher P. Nolan, Senior Commercial Associate in the North Haven Commercial Office, and Eileen Smith, Residential Sales Associate in the Wallingford Regional l Office,  were the listing and selling agents for a 30 acre parcel of land within the Town of North Haven. The purchaser of the “Open Space” property at Kings Highway, is the Town of North Haven, which may consider its use for passive recreation purposes, not development.  The seller was the Sinoway Family Partnership of North Haven. The sale price was $447,500. By overwhelming majority, the people of North Haven supported the idea, and, as required by a Connecticut General Statute, the matter was referred to the Town Planning and Zoning Commission for their review and approval. The proposal then was sent to the Town’s Board of Selectmen who approved the purchase at their March 2017 meeting.        
 
“The concept of “Open Space” is particularly vital to the Town of North Haven and balances the population density and commercial activity there,” said Ms. Pearce. “We are especially pleased that Chris and Eileen worked together on this transaction. They pay particular attention to detail, keep their respective clients up to date on developments, have meticulous work habits and great reputations for fairness,” she added.  
 
Chris Nolan is a veteran at Pearce Real Estate, having joined the Company in December 1979. He is the recipients of numerous commercial awards, has been named a Top Producer many times and has an outstanding record of volunteerism in Greater New Haven.   He graduated from the University of Richmond with a BA in English Literature, is a New Haven native and currently lives in Wallingford.
