WELCOMING BRANFORD

In partnership with East Shore Region Adult & Continuing Education (ERACE), Welcoming Branford is an opportunity for you to share a little about yourself and learn about the many different people that make up our community. Responding to a prompt, share something that has meaning to you - your hopes and dreams, a story about a family member (or pet!), something that makes you, you. You may also submit a photo that illustrates your story – a portrait, object, or landscape. Big and small, our stories are what make us who we are. This is a chance for you to share, and connect, with the people in your hometown. Your stories and photos will be displayed anonymously in the library rotunda throughout the month of April.

Writing prompts and program details are available at www.blackstonelibrary.org or at any service desk in the library. Welcoming Branford submissions are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17. Please email your entry to submission@blackstonelibrary.org, and include a photo (portrait, object, landscape) to accompany and illustrate your story. You may also register to have a professional picture taken for free at the library on March 13 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Connex Credit Union and WPLR Partner to Benefit
New Haven Diaper Bank with Shamrock & Roll 5K March 5
Community donations accepted at Connex branches through February 25
Connex Credit Union partners with WPLR (99.1 FM) to present the Shamrock & Roll 5K, Connecticut’s largest St. Patrick’s Day themed race, on Sunday, Mar. 5, 2017, at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Diaper Bank in New Haven and community donations are accepted at all Connex branches through Feb. 25.

The Diaper Bank is a local non-profit organization founded in June 2004 to counteract the lack of public assistance poor and low-income families receive for purchasing diapers. The organization seeks to prevent the risk of health and parenting complications caused by limited access to diapers.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to once again sponsor the Shamrock & Roll after last year’s incredible showing produced a record-breaking contribution of more than 16,300 diapers ,” said Carl Casper, vice president of customer advocacy, Connex Credit Union. “Connex has a longstanding commitment to improving our surrounding communities and if we come together to assist these families in need, I am confident we can surpass last year’s donation and make an even bigger impact.”

Those looking to support this effort are advised to bring diaper donations to their local Connex branch by Feb. 25. All diaper sizes are accepted and contributions are welcomed from both members and non-members. A full list of locations is available at connexcu.org.

All Shamrock & Roll runners are encouraged to dress in their best St. Patrick’s Day costumes and bring a package of diapers. Anyone who fundraises $100 or more for The Diaper Bank will also receive free entry into the race. For additional information, and to register, please visit wplr.com.

Connex’s sponsorship is maintained through its charitable and philanthropic initiative, ConnexCares. To learn more about this program, or to get involved, please visit connexcu.org or contact Anita Annunziato at aannunziato@connexcu.org.
