Create Your Own 3D Creatures
BRANFORD: In this class, we'll use the ipad to create creatures using a free 3D modelling program, 123D Sculpt. ​“Art & Craft Beer” Fundraiser for
Guilford Art Center features local CT breweries
 Guilford, CT — Sample some of Connecticut’s best craft brews at Guilford Art Center’s Art & Craft Beer event, scheduled for Friday, March 3 from 6-8:30 pm at Guilford Art Center.
Guests are invited to try a selection of beers from area breweries, including 30 Mile Brewing Company, Black Hog Brewing Company, Stony Creek Brewery and Thimble Island Brewing Company.  There will be bar food; wine and non-alcoholic beverages also will be served.  Live music will be performed by One & Done, a local trio.    
Additionally, there will be a silent auction of brewery tours, growlers (large glass jugs for beer), and bar accessories designed by GAC staff and students.   The GAC blacksmiths will be conducting live demonstrations in the blacksmith forge. 
The Art Center gallery will feature the Faculty & Student Exhibition: In Honor of 50 Years, a show of works by instructors and students across all media from the past two years. 
“This event will be a really fun, relaxed evening that allows people to enjoy some great drink, food, live music and exhibits, while supporting the arts.  We’re excited to host all of the great local breweries and so appreciate their support of this event” says Guilford Art Center Executive Director Maureen Belden.

Vista Partners with Ballou’s for Paint Night
Community members of all artistic skill levels are invited to enjoy a night of painting at Ballou’s Restaurant & Wine Bar in Guilford on Feb. 20 during Paint Night with Vista from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Paint Night with Vista is a social group art class led by Vista Arts Specialist Samantha Listorti. No prior painting experience is required; participants will receive step-by-step instructions on how to recreate an original scenic mountain landscape.

​Connex Credit Union Announces $5,000 in Scholarships
Applications open TOMORROW Feb. 1, 2017

Two $2,000 scholarships and a $1,000 scholarship offered
Connex Credit Union announces it is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program. Three scholarships worth a total of $5,000 are available to assist college-bound or currently enrolled students with the rising costs of higher education.

The scholarships offered in 2017 are:

$1,000 - Nicolas G. Hackett Memorial Scholarship: Established in memory of longtime Connex volunteer Nick Hackett 

$2,000 – John R. Edwards Community Involvement Scholarship: Awarded in honor of former Connex President and Chief Executive Officer John R. Edwards to a student who emulates the credit union’s commitment to community service 

$2,000 – Arthur B. Haesche Memorial Scholarship: Created to commemorate one of Connex’s founding members, Arthur B. Haesche, and reserved for a student majoring in business or finance 

“We are elated to support our student-members as they embark on the next phase of their educational journey,” said Carl Casper, vice president of customer advocacy, Connex Credit Union. “Even the most financially conscious student can be impacted by the excessive costs of college and the opportunity to alleviate some of this burden directly correlates with our core values of customer advocacy.”

These scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled as, or who have committed to being, a full-time student at an accredited two or four-year University during the upcoming fall semester.

Eligible students must meet the following criteria for scholarship consideration:

A 3.2 GPA or higher
Can provide a copy of a current transcript
Current Connex primary member, or joins upon applying
Completes and submits both the application and essay to
Submits all required materials by March 24, 2017

​Shoreline ArtsTrail Call For Artists 2017

The Shoreline Arts Trail announces its 16th annual Open Studios Weekend on November 11 and 12, 2017. Approximately 40 member artists who live and work in Branford, Guilford and Madison show and sell their work during the weekend.

Artists with media such as ceramics and pottery, stained and fused glass, paintings, jewelry, sculpture, weaving, prints, photography, textiles, quilts, paper and wood are invited to apply for this event. Artists will be considered based on their mastery of methods and materials and originality of concept. All considered art must be handmade by the artist.

Among the benefits of becoming a member are: inclusion on the ArtsTrail map and website; statewide publicity via print and online; 13,000 brochures/maps distributed throughout Connecticut; and year-round marketing, networking, and social media opportunities.
