Observe Classes for Free at Guilford Art Center during “Picture Yourself at GAC” Week

Guilford, CT – Guilford Art Center will open its classrooms to anyone who would like to visit and observe a class for FREE during the week of Monday, November 6 – Saturday, November 11, 2017.  The public is invited to see the studios, meet instructors and fellow students, and experience the class environment at GAC.  Classes are offered for adults and children in a range of mediums, including blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber arts, metalsmithing, painting, drawing and more.

“So many people are curious about taking classes here, but are sometimes nervous or intimidated about getting started because they don’t know what a class will be like,” says Maureen Belden, GAC Executive Director.  “We want to give people the opportunity to sit through a class, so they can literally picture themselves as a student at GAC and get really comfortable with that.  We know they’ll discover this is a very warm and welcoming place to learn, explore and have a lot of fun with a great group of people.”

All GAC class information can be found online at www.guilfordartcenter.org.  No registration or payment is necessary for class observation, however, people should contact the office to make sure a class is running.

Note: This opportunity is valid for one week (Nov 6-11) for classes only (no workshops).

For more information contact the Guilford Art Center at 203.453.5947, email info@guilfordartcenter.org, or visit the website guilfordartcenter.org

Wanted: 500 Turkeys

The Branford Food Pantry needs 500 turkeys.

We deliver groceries and turkeys to an estimated 250 needy Branford  families for both Thanksgiving , Christmas and the December holy days so we are now soliciting help and the donation of turkeys.

Too many families live a life of hard choices so many of them would not enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving without our help.

The need is for birds that are mostly 12 to 16# each, fresh or frozen and we have large freezers to accommodate them until needed. We are asking Chamber members to consider doing a business turkey drive or making a cash donation and we will buy what is needed. In the past, we have been successful only because of generous community business support.

We think it is important that all families have an opportunity to enjoy the traditional holiday dinners and it is clear that we make a difference  And, kids don’t understand why they can’t celebrate like other families. You can make a difference.

If you can provide  turkeys they can be dropped off at 30 Harrison Ave. (lower level, right side of the building) on Tuesdays or Fridays between 8 and 11 a.m.  For large donations or for special issues, you can call Jay Webb at 203-215-3533 to make arrangements or to answer questions.

To learn more about the Branford Food Pantry, check www.branfordfoodpantry.org.

If it is easier to make a cash donation we will make the purchases. Checks can be made out to the Branford Food Pantry and mailed to the above address.

The Branford Food Pantry provides groceries to Branford families in need. Over 200,000 pounds of food is distributed annually to an average of 178 different families a month but services reach over 400 different families a year. We are a non-profit corporation using 100% volunteer workers and operate out of the Volunteer Services Center at 30 Harrison Ave. Clients are screened and qualified for assistance by the Branford Counseling Center. Clients include the elderly, physically and mentally challenged, disabled, single parent families, those out of work and the working poor. Food is donated or purchased as resources allow.
