Branford Folk Music Society
December 9, 2017 - The society closes out 2017 by offering a special holiday show featuring the infectious music and dance of Sicily and Southern Italy with Michela Musolino and Rosa Tatuata.

Love of the roots music from that region of the globe is what drives Rosa Tatuata to passionately interpret the traditions and melodies of their ancestors. Just as their name comes from Tennessee Williams' beloved play about the happy, raucous collision of immigrant and American cultures; likewise Rosa Tatuata's performance relates that incredible commingling to their beloved audience through song!

Fueled by their research into traditional instruments like the tamburo (Sicilian frame drum), organetto, marranzano (jaw's harp) and zampogna (Southern Italian bagpipes), Rosa Tatuata introduces traditional songs into different musical contexts that rhythmically mirror the commingling of Old & New World. With an enchanting mix of ballads and dance tunes, Rosa Tatuata will take your imagination to sunbathed Southern Italy and the clear, crystal-blue waters surrounding Sicily just as winter begins to creep into our own region.

Michela will be joined by Phil Passantino, Charlie Rutan and Jeffrey Panettieri as Rosa Tatuata in what is sure to be a concert with plenty of audience participation, whether singing or dancing. Bring your dancing shoes because in the concert's second half, Rosa Tatuata will teach and lead the audience in traditional Sicilian dances.

Michela is American-born-and-raised, but has been carrying on a love-affair with Sicilian music since growing up in a household where Sicilian dialect was spoken. Known for her fiery and passionate interpretations of both traditional and contemporary Sicilian folk and roots music, she turns world fusion songs into timeless pieces and infuses her vocals with the emotions of life. She enchants with a voice that seems to float between the ages.

Peter Covino, Pen America prize-winning poet and University of Rhode Island Assistant Professor of English said this about Michela: "Can you imagine the wild soulfulness of Tina Turner and the earthy yet ethereal voice of Neapolitan songstress Teresa De Sio combined? Well imagine that; then think even more vibrancy, more urbanity, in songs that somehow also feel impossibly intimate.... No wonder Michela Musolino has such a devoted underground following; full divahood seems scarily within reach."

Take a musical break from what can sometimes be the harried and hurried holiday times leading up to the turn of the year and join us for a rousing night of Sicilian music.

Admission: $20 non-members, $17 members, $5 children 12 and under.

‘The Gables at Guilford’ Becomes ‘Solstice Senior Living at Guilford’
GUILFORD, Conn. (Nov. 27, 2017) – Local senior living community The Gables at Guilford is under new management and today announces a new name: Solstice Senior Living at Guilford. The announcement results from a recently launched, national joint venture, Solstice Senior Living, between the property’s ownership group, NorthStar Healthcare Income, Inc., (NHI) and Integral Senior Living, a premier provider of senior living management services nationally.
“Living and working at Guilford will only get better as we introduce new activities and culinary programs,” said Dale Cordle, Executive Director of Solstice Senior Living at Guilford. “So, aside from getting used to a new name, residents, associates, family members and community friends should not expect any disruption in their day-to-day experiences.”
Solstice Senior Living has assumed management of 32 NHI-owned independent living communities nationally. Each community will be rebranded under the Solstice umbrella, with Integral Senior Living (ISL) providing its industry-leading management expertise and NHI maintaining business and real estate ownership of each property.
Gerald “Gerry” Jackson has been named Solstice’s senior vice president. Jackson has more than 30 years of experience in senior living, assisted living and behavioral health, including leadership roles in training, operations, and program and staff development.
“Solstice will create value for our residents by optimizing operations and programming, with the goal of taking our residents’ experience to a new level,” Jackson said.
Activity and culinary offerings are widely recognized as key factors in seniors’ selection of an independent living community, and Solstice’s goal of enhancing these services exemplifies the venture’s ability to combine management best practices with purposeful resident engagement to support community utilization and retention.
Solstice Senior Living at Guilford, and all other Solstice communities, will now feature ISL’s trademark Vibrant Life™ activity program as well as a newly developed culinary program, Elevate. Vibrant Life focuses on seven core components, ranging from inspiration and wellness to adventure and community connections. The program promotes joyful experiences, meaningful endeavors, and abundant opportunities to connect residents with family, friends and the Guilford community.
Elevate will provide Solstice residents with flexible and changing culinary options. The new program will be complemented by monthly “Food for Thought” meetings, which have proved successful at other ISL communities in engaging residents in culinary and menu-related decisions.
Solstice Senior Living at Guilford is located at 201 Granite Road, Guilford, CT 06437. Visit for more information.
