The film scene takes Stony Creek by storm September 19-21! The inaugural Legacy Theatre Film Festival will screen documentaries, shorts, absurdist art films, and more over the course of the three-day festival. Panels with filmmakers and industry professionals, as well as networking events and a final awards ceremony, round out the event.
One of the films set to take the Legacy stage is Born at the Water’s Edge, a documentary that details the history of Stony Creek, Connecticut. Featuring interviews with "Creekers," and individuals who provide insight into how the village of Stony Creek has evolved, audiences will learn about the quarry workers, the vacationers, the actors, and the artists who made Stony Creek their home. Full of beautiful drone shots of the Thimble Islands, Born at the Water’s Edge provides a stunning snapshot of Stony Creek – the architecture, the Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corps, The Legacy Theatre, and more – and tells the story of those who make their living off the water. The documentary is directed by Dana Springer, who grew up in Stony Creek, and is executive produced by Mary Lee Weber. It also features Emmy-award-winning Mike Zaritheny as the cinematographer on the project, and narrations by Chris Velardi.
The final filmmaker panel before the award ceremony on Wednesday, September 21 boasts television and film heavy-hitters Matt Newton, Stephen Dest, and Karyl Evans as members, with Legacy Artistic Director and Co-Founder Keely Baisden Knudsen interviewing. Newton is a successful TV and film actor, award-winning filmmaker, best-selling author, and acclaimed on-camera acting coach. Dest is a New Haven native and is an award-winning writer/director and producer. His film I Am Shakespeare: The Henry Green Story, has received numerous accolades. Evans has won six Emmy Awards for her documentaries, among many other national and regional awards.
