GreenStage Guilford presents a free evening of live music and comedy on Saturday, October 5, from 5-8 p.m. at the iconic Guilford restaurant, The Place. The event will be fun for all ages, featuring a diversity of entertainment, from original folk-pop to a cappella vocal music to West African, Indian and Caribbean drumming. Food from The Place’s delicious grill menu and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for purchase; attendees are welcome to bring their own alcoholic drinks and sides.
The GreenStage Experience is part of GreenStage Guilford Live Arts’ expanded Shoreline programming and will highlight the kind of diverse entertainment GreenStage has presented at its biennial performing arts festival since 2017. GreenStage will also preview coming events, including the 2025 festival; explain the nonprofit organization’s mission and aspirations; and detail the many volunteer opportunities available. The 2025 festival is scheduled for August 10-17, centered on the historic Guilford Green.
Performers at The GreenStage Experience will include the Caribbean Vibe Steel Drum Band; singer-songwriter Laura Clapp; The Conn Artists a cappella vocal ensemble; West African drummer and ethnographer John Wesley Dankwa and his five-person ensemble; Indian tabla master Ranendra Kumar Das; the father-and-son duo SJD Squared, featuring Jim and Steve DePasque; and comedian Kate Wolff. Dankwa and Das will perform traditional music and interact with the audience to highlight cultural, historical and technical aspects of their instruments.
